American Depositary Receipt

American Depositary Receipt Work

American Depositary Receipt (ADR) is known as a negotiable certificate  issued by an american bank stating that a number of stocks in the overseas firm has been deposited with them.   receipt can be exchanged in United states stock markets. Instead of having to buy stocks of ‘foreign stocks ‘of foreign companies in foreign stock markets. People in america can buy them in the united states in the form of ADRs, that are bought and sold (exchanged) in New York Stock Exchange.

Each and every ADR is distributed by a US depository bank and can represent a part of a share, just one share, or several shares of foreign stock. An owner of the ADR has the authority to obtain the foreign share it represents, but United states traders generally find it more convenient simply to own the ADR. The price of an ADR is usually near to the price of the foreign share in its home stock market, modified for the ratio of ADRs to foreign firm stocks.
